With just a few basic stitches, you can create hats, scarves, toys and more-using just a simple hook and some yarn. This is a 4-week course for beginners with little to no previous experience; you will learn basic stitches and techniques, how to crochet in rows and "in the round," and how to follow a pattern. You'll need some worsted-weight yarn and a size h/5mm hook; materials are available for purchase at the shop. Remaining class will be held from 7-8:30PM on February 20th. Cost is $100, adults only.

Coming up: Sydney Crabaugh, February 16th: Bringing Vintage Knitting to Life Melanie Berg, March 30th: Knitting that Makes a Difference
Next Up: Sydney Crabaugh:

Join Sydney Crabaugh for a discussion on the history of fashionable knitwear and a glimpse into her online knitting school, Squid's School of Vintage Knitting! Sydney will guide you through a whistle-stop tour of handknitting history through the lens of fashion, looking closely at the changes in trends through the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. This era of knitting is brought to life again at her online knitting school through lectures, tutorial videos, styling advice, and vintage inspired knitting patterns. Sydney will talk through how the school came to be, showcase some recreated vintage knits from different decades, and will go over her distinctive approach to garment pattern construction. Unlike the "one-size-fits-all" grading in original vintage patterns, the school’s garment patterns use a special method of construction to create personalized, tailored garments that are fully size inclusive. Sydney will talk through this process and show you how her system can be implemented on both vintage and modern knitting patterns. Come along for a trip back in time and into the world of vintage knitting!
This is a live Zoom Event on Sunday, February 16th at 2:00pm EST, 1:00pm CST, 12:00pm MST, 11:00am PST, 8:00pm CET

Knit the Rainbow is a charity dedicated to helping at-risk LGBTQ youth. We'll be a drop-off location for garments for this group. (And no, items don't have to be rainbow-colored!) DONATIONS SUSPENDED FOR THE SEASON.
"Knit the Rainbow (KtR) was founded in April, 2020 after the Founder, Austin Rivers, discovered the housing disparities facing LGBTQ+ youth in New York City. Austin learned there were a few nonprofits dedicated to providing housing and/or shelter for this community; however, he knew there was still more to be done; this is where KtR was born.
Austin learned to knit while performing on a tour in Japan and felt he could use these skills to provide warm protective winter garments for LGBTQ+ youth facing homelessness. KtR hopes to educate people across the country about the housing crisis these youth are facing and increase the number of youth served by asking volunteers to knit or crochet at home and donate the garments to KtR to be distributed in New York City and Chicago."
