Early September, 2025 Newsletter

Early September, 2025

Back to school means back to knitting (for some of us).

A quick note on navigating the new delivery and pricing of international shipments. As you know, we love not only our US producers but also small producers abroad. As an importer, we pay tariffs directly; some of our suppliers pay them (and pass them on to us) but ultimately the costs are borne here in the US.  We of course are affected by these policies but cannot predict how they will affect our business long-term.

For the here and now, we're going to have our next Thursday night Knitalong beginning September 4th for the Glow sweater; details are below.

The next knit night will be in-store, Wednesday, September 10th, from 7-9PM.
We'll begin collecting garments again for Knit the Rainbow.

ONGOING AT KNITAPESTRY:

Multi-shop KAL Zoom for the Glow Sweaters begins on 9/4!

Join our Thursday Zoom group as we knit the Violent Cat Lady's Glow Crew Sweater or Glow Cardigan together with Monttricot of Sutton, Canada and One City Market of Rogersville, MISSOURI!

We'll meet virtually to knit these super popular designs on Thursday evenings, September 4th, 18th and October 9th, from 7-8PM on Zoom. There is no cost to join, but you'll need to email or call the shop to get your Zoom Code. You'll also need to buy the pattern on Ravelry directly. Note: we recommend Lang Cloud for the yarn-we have it in stock at the store as do our partner shops.
Come knit the Beatriz Cardigan with Gemma on Saturday mornings in August. Three sessions, 8/9 (9-10:30AM), 8/16 (9-10:30AM), and 9/6, 9-10AM.  Cost: $50 in person, $45 virtually. Includes the pattern and a 10% discount on supplies purchased for the class.

You've probably seen our beautiful sample in the shop, or else spied it on Instagram, where it's been hugely popular. Knit in worsted weight, it's a CocoKnits pattern. CocoKnits has earned a reputation for sweater patterns that not only look great, but fit well and are flattering. The patterns are clear and have interesting details and unique construction.
Next up for Gemma is Andrea Mowry's brand new sweater design, "Ooey Gooey." Knit the pullover with Gemma on Saturday mornings in October: . Three sessions, 10/4 (9-10:30AM), 10/11 (9-10:30AM), and 10/25, 9-10AM.  Cost: $50 in person, $45 virtually. Includes the pattern and a 10% discount on supplies purchased for the class.

YThis sweater has been a huge hit-and for folks who have wanted to tackle color work, here's your chance! As Andrea says:
"
The inspiration for this sweater began with a beautiful modern rug with undulating curves. I immediately began drawing up some colorwork charts, and love the organic, bold shape of this yoke. After knitting thru the first chart, I was inspired to add some perfectly round polka dots, and the jammy colors and drippy motif just had me thinking “ooey gooey” as I was knitting! This sweater is worked from the top down, seamlessly. The sleeve stitches are put on hold while the body is finished and then returned to the needle."

T
he class will include the pattern, a 10% discount on supplies purchased for the class and Gemmas's videos.
Crochet Workshop with Clayton Leadbetter-Monday mornings from 10-11:30 AM. 10% discount for supplies purchased in-store for his workshop.

Clayton is offering his Crochet Workshop at Knitapestry! We ask that you use those prepaid sessions within six months. Buy your sessions through the shop. It'll be available online soon as well. And we recommend one or two private lessons if you're a beginner: call the shop to set one up.

Knit the Rainbow is a charity dedicated to helping at-risk LGBTQ youth. We'll be a drop-off location for garments for this group. (And no, items don't have to be rainbow-colored!)

"Knit the Rainbow (KtR) was founded in April, 2020 after the Founder, Austin Rivers, discovered the housing disparities facing LGBTQ+ youth in New York City. Austin learned there were a few nonprofits dedicated to providing housing and/or shelter for this community; however, he knew there was still more to be done; this is where KtR was born.

Austin learned to knit while performing on a tour in Japan and felt he could use these skills to provide warm protective winter garments for LGBTQ+ youth facing homelessness. KtR hopes to educate people across the country about the housing crisis these youth are facing and increase the number of youth served by asking volunteers to knit or crochet at home and donate the garments to KtR to be distributed in New York City and Chicago."

Yarn Donations for Ridgecrest Senior Housing:
Help local residents make hats and clothing for a variety of charities. These knitters are motivated and prolific...we're happy to play our small part!  We'll take your CLEAN yarn (YARN ONLY) and bring it to the senior center, where residents will work on their projects.  Your destash is ultimately comfort for a person in need, and there's the added piece where these knitters connect and are engaged not only with each other, but with the community. Please: no needle or book donations.
