Early April, 2026 Knitapestry Newsletter

Early April, 2026

Many folks are just getting back from Spring Break, or have just had family celebrations-so here's what's going on to help inspire you with a new season of crafting.

We are starting to prepare for NJ's annual Wool Walk, held this year from April 22nd-26th. More details are below. We have received our passports ($6), stitch markers, and bag tags ($8). The passports and tags are available in the shop and online-purchase both together to save $1. And remember, $1 of the passport purchase goes to the Community Food Bank of NJ.

We will once again host NJ Fiberworks for a trunk show on Saturday of the Wool Walk-she always brings a unique (and extensive) selection of her hand-dyed yarn!

These Thursday night knitalongs are usually held twice a month over Zoom, and are free to participants. There is no obligation to buy the yarn from us (but you could certainly think about that).  There is no formal assistance in the group.

Call the store or email to sign up for our Zoom-only knitalong.  Feel free to email your questions as well.
NJ Wool Walk 2026 is coming up!

This will be our 11th wool Walk! For those who are new to this, the NJ Wool Walk is a statewide yarn crawl that takes place over 5 consecutive days. Our hours are: April 22-25th-10AM-5PM and Sunday, April 26th, 11AM-4PM. There will be sales and giveaways at all 17 participating shops, and trunk shows at most. You'll need to buy a passport ($6) to get in on all the action (discounts, giveaways), but there is no cost to visit any shop.

We'll be posting more as the event approaches. It's a fun time to spend visiting new shops and getting inspired to make all the things!

April 26th: Jeanette Sloan: Elevate your Knits! The joy of beaded Colorwork

For April 12th: Lucy Neatby

Many years ago, you might have heard Lucy announce that despite loving double knitting, she would never knit anything larger than a potholder. But for the past 13 years, center-out double-knit blankets have been her passion. Her first double-knit blanket was rectangular - with all its attendant challenges. Nearly a decade later, she began a series of octagonal blankets. Then she discovered JC Briar's extraordinary charting system, Stitch Maps, which opened the door to far more extravagant designs. She now creates, on average, one blanket each year.....along with being exceptional - they're large. After several experiments to achieve a square blanket, Lucy has finally cracked the formula with the Flower Power DK Blanket!  Join Lucy for a discussion of circular tubular cast-ons for double knitting, plus an inside look at charting and pattern writing. We can't wait to visit Lucy's colorful extraordinary world of knitting in this Fiberside Chat!

This is a live Zoom Event on Sunday, April 12th at 1:00pm EDT, 12:00pm CDT, 11:00am MDT, 10:00am PDT, 2:00pm ADT

Michelle Kupfer is hosting her classes on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The next sessions of 90 minutes scheduled for March will be three Saturdays or three Thursdays ($60).
The April series will be held on Thursdays, 5:15-6:45PM, April 9th, 16th, and 30th;  Saturdays will be 11:00AM-12:30PM, April 4th, 11th and 18th.

Sign up for either Thursday or Saturday sessions. There will be a 10% discount on supplies purchased for your class project. Classes are for those who already know the basics (how to knit and purl), and we’ll focus on building your skills in a fun and relaxed class setting. See Michelle’s patterns on Ravelry for ideas and inspiration for class projects.  Call or email the store to sign up.
Crochet Workshop with Clayton Leadbetter-Monday mornings from 10-11:30 AM. 10% discount for supplies purchased in-store for his workshop.  (Adults only.)

Clayton is offering his Crochet Workshop at Knitapestry! If you have experience with crochet, join him to learn new techniques as well as get guidance.  You'll need to buy a "book" of 4 90-minute sessions for $80; since the classes don't have to be taken in consecutive weeks, you must let Clayton know you're coming. He will send a weekly mail to ask your availability and to remind you. We ask that you use those prepaid sessions within six months. Buy your sessions through the shop. It's available online as well. And we recommend one or two private lessons if you're a beginner: call the shop to set one up.
Beginning Knitting with Anna-Thursdays, after the store closes at 4PM; sign up for 8 sessions for $130.

Anna will host beginning knitting classes weekly. You'll learn the skills so you can call yourself a knitter!  The package includes 8 hours of instruction. Classes do not have to be in sequential weeks and you can opt to take two hours in a row if you're rocking! (She will also make herself available on the same basis for her "My First Sweater" class. Supplies purchased in-store get a 10% discount.

Preregistration required-YOU MUST CALL BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO MAKE SURE THERE'S ROOM IN THE ONGOING CLASS.
Next Steps Knitting with Gemma Sogabe
Tuesday evenings, 6-7 PM; Sundays at 10-11AM. $65 per 4-class session.

Preregistration required; 10% discount on supplies purchased for class.

Gemma's class is perfect for new knitters who want to build on their beginning skills, or knitters who want to learn new skills, or even those who might be a little rusty.  You don't have to attend sequential weeks, but this isn't a drop-in-you must let Gemma know you're coming in advance.
Knit Night -the first three Wednesday evenings of each month, 7-9PM. Crocheters welcome, too!

This free get-together is hosted on the first three Wednesdays of each month, in-person at the store. No help is provided-it's a purely social knitting and crochet group.
Punch Card Hour is now on GroupSpot!

Charmaine is ready to help you tackle whatever is holding up your project----a dropped stitch? can't remember where you are? or maybe even deciphering the pattern.  PUNCH CARD is the place to figure it out so you can keep knitting.

You can join Charmaine's PCH Group on GroupSpot by clicking this link.

Sessions occur when the store is closed. You can purchase a 5 or 10 punch card (get your 11th punch free) or simply drop in for $12.  No RSVP needed.  Feel free to contact Charmaine directly here, with any further questions.
Knit the Rainbow is a charity dedicated to helping at-risk LGBTQ youth. We'll be a drop-off location for garments for this group. (And no, items don't have to be rainbow-colored!) ***Please note donations are suspended until Fall, 2026.***

"Knit the Rainbow (KtR) was founded in April, 2020 after the Founder, Austin Rivers, discovered the housing disparities facing LGBTQ+ youth in New York City. Austin learned there were a few nonprofits dedicated to providing housing and/or shelter for this community; however, he knew there was still more to be done; this is where KtR was born.

Austin learned to knit while performing on a tour in Japan and felt he could use these skills to provide warm protective winter garments for LGBTQ+ youth facing homelessness. KtR hopes to educate people across the country about the housing crisis these youth are facing and increase the number of youth served by asking volunteers to knit or crochet at home and donate the garments to KtR to be distributed in New York City and Chicago."

Yarn Donations for Ridgecrest Senior Housing:
Help local residents make hats and clothing for a variety of charities. These knitters are motivated and prolific...we're happy to play our small part!  We'll take your CLEAN yarn (YARN ONLY) and bring it to the senior center, where residents will work on their projects.  Your destash is ultimately comfort for a person in need, and there's the added piece where these knitters connect and are engaged not only with each other, but with the community. Please: no needle or book donations.
